Recent News This summer Groove School of Percussion will hold a 4-day marching drum and mallet camp for kids ages 11 – 17 on June 24 – 27 from 9am – 4pm. This is the third year of Groove School’s Summer Rudimental Drumming Camp. New for this summer is the addition of mallet percussion. Groove School will now offer a full range of marching and mallet percussion. This summer Groove School is pleased to present as guest clinician, DCI Hall of Famer Ralph Hardimon.
Ralph Hardimon is a legendary performer, educator, and a Drum Corps International Hall of Fame inductee, best known for his work as Director of Percussion for the Santa Clara Vanguard. During his time there, Santa Clara Vanguard won 5 High Percussion Awards and 3 DCI World Championships. Ralph Hardimon has also earned Grammy nominations and has an R&B gold record. In 2005 he received the Life Time Achievement Award from Sabian Cymbals. Vic Firth manufactures popular drumsticks that feature Hardimon’s name. Ralph Hardimon is an entertainment industry veteran, with a resume packed with work for Disney, the Citrus Bowl, the Orange Bowl, and the Super Bowl.
Our Philosophy The Groove School of Percussion philosophy is simple – teaching students lifelong lessons that they will be able to take with them wherever they go. Some of these lessons are self confidence, setting goals…working toward those goals…and ultimately accomplishing those goals. These goals not only pertain to the ensembles, but also to the students themselves. The ensemble setting enables students to interact with other students their age allowing them to grow with in themselves at all levels. Helping students learn that they can accomplish anything they put their minds to, makes Groove School of Percussion more than just a percussion school.
The primary purpose of Groove School of Percussion is to give students a foundation of percussion music from fundamentals to live performances. Groove School of Percussion is one of the country's most unique percussion schools. It offers the most complete selection of ensembles, and is staffed only by experienced professionals. That, combined with the school's underlying teaching philosophy, is what separates Groove School of Percussion from ANY other Percussion School in the nation.
