My First Drum class is for the very beginning, younger student who has no experience with music. Groove School uses instruments of different sounds, color, and shapes for each child to hold and play. The students will learn basic rhythms and develop their motor skills, and communication skills. The idea of this course is to excite, inspire, and most of all have a whole lot of fun with sounds of percussion in a very none intimidating environment. No musical experience is needed to join this class. The course is open to children ages 4 to 6 and runs once a week for 45 minutes.
The Fun with Drums Class is for the younger student who has little or no experience with music. Groove School uses different types of hand drums and long drums for the kids to play with their hands. The students will learn basic rhythms and develop their motor skills, and communication skills while playing on hand drums. The idea of this course is to excite, inspire, and most of all have a whole lot of fun with sounds of drums in a very none intimidating environment. No musical experience is needed to join this class. The course is open to children ages 7 to 8 and runs once a week for 45 minutes.
Beginning to drum is setup for the beginning student who is excited about learning to drum for the first time. Each student will learn how to hold drum sticks, understand how to let the drum stick bounce off the drum pad and work on beginning rhythms to better their understanding of percussion. Students not only will learn how to drum, but will also learn how to read and understand music. Groove school will also introduce to the class how to play the bells to expose students to Mallet percussion with the joy of playing songs. This course is open to students 9 to 15 and will run once a week for 50 minutes.
This course is for the beginning percussion student who has either successfully completed the Beginning Percussion course at Groove School of Percussion, or is in their Jr. High band program, or who has at least one year of percussion experience under their belt and would like to continue working on enhancing their percussion skills. We will continue to work with the Drum Pads and Bells and also start to drum on a real snare drums. The idea is to increase the Students music vocabulary and continue working on their drumming, and bell playing skills. This class is open to students age 9 – 15 and will run once a week for 50 minutes.
This class is for the student who has successfully completed Beginning to drum, and Beginning to drum 100A at Groove School of Percussion or who has been referred to us by their school music teacher. In this class we will start to work with advanced beginners to drumming and bell playing. We will introduce intermediate concepts to drumming. Some of these concepts are learning how to play a drum roll and learning how to play what percussionist calls rudiments. Some of the rudiments we will learn about are the Flam, the Ruff, and the Paradiddle. The idea of this course is to continue working on the fundamentals of drumming and bell playing as well as start to work on more intermediate concepts of drumming. This class is open to ages 9 – 15 and will run once a week for 50 minutes.
